Student Employment

The NIU Student Employment Office can help you arrange part-time work on-campus. For more information visit their website at http://www.hr.niu.edu/.

There are two types of student employment:

1. Federal Work-Study employment - is based on financial aid need as determined by filing the FAFSA. The Student Financial Aid Office will notify you of your eligibility on your Award Notification.

In order to work under the Federal Work-Study program students must be:

  • enrolled for at least 6 semester hours.
  • maintain at least 2.0 GPA.
  • summer employment - you are not required to take classes during the summer semester in order to work,  but you must be enrolled for at least 6 hours during the next fall semester and have completed the FAFSA and qualify for federal work-study for the following year.

2. Regular Employment - eligibility is not based on financial aid need and available to all students. If you are interested contact the Student Employment Office.
