For Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans

Important Message! If you are classified as a Student-at-Large at NIU, there are certain guidelines you must meet before you receive a Federal Stafford Loan. You will need to complete the Student-at-Large Federal Stafford Loan Eligibility Form to determine your eligibility before you can complete the Loan Request Form.

Loan Request Form (pdf) - print this form, fill it out completely and submit it to the Student Financial Aid Office.

Fall / Spring Semester Loan Request

You must be enrolled in at least half-time (excluding audits) and have:

• received and submitted your Fall/Spring NIU award notification from the Financial Aid Office
• NOT requested your MAXIMUM Subsidized or Unsubsidized Stafford Loan limits for Fall/Spring

Summer Semester Loan Request

You must be enrolled in at least 3 hours (excluding audits) and have:

• submitted the Summer Financial Aid Application (pdf) and other documentation as requested by the Financial Aid Office
• received and submitted your Summer NIU award notification from the Financial Aid Office
• NOT requested your MAXIMUM Subsidized or Unsubsidized Stafford Loan limits for Fall/Spring/Summer
