Beginning with the Fall 2008 semester NIU will process Stafford and PLUS from the Direct Loan Program. The Federal Government is your lender . Alternative Loans (private loans) will continue to be processed through the lender of your choice.

NIU will process Stafford, PLUS and alternative loans from any lender of your choice until the end of the summer 2008 semester.

If your lender is not listed above, please request this information from your bank, or refer to the list of lender codes on the FinAid website.

Important Notice: As of 4/1/08 TCF Bank and The National Bank & Trust of Sycamore will no longer be participating in the Federal Family Educational Loan Program (FFELP). If your are eligible to receive a summer 2008 Stafford Loan and your last Stafford Loan was borrowed through TCF or The National Bank & Trust of Sycamore, you will need to choose a new lender and will need to complete a new promissory note.
