Less than full-time enrollment at NIU

Part-time students

Students should consult with their financial aid counselor prior to adjusting their academic load to less than full-time (12 credit hours) as this change in status may impact their financial aid. Typically, students must be enrolled for at least six credit hours per semester to be eligible for nearly all forms of financial aid.

Attending NIU and another institution at the same time

Students can receive financial aid at NIU while concurrently enrolled at other institutions. See Concurrent Enrollment.

Attending another school for a semester

See the Consortium Agreement for details and participating schools if you will be attending another school for a semester.
